Pulau Payar Marine Park
Pulau Payar, located in the north of the Straits of Malacca, is merely 19 nautical miles off the southern coast of Langkawi Island or only a 1 hour boat ride away with only two kilometres in length and a quarter kilometre in width and it is one of the four islands that have been collectively gazette as the Pulau Payar Marine Park. Not only marine biologists, but you will be thrilled by it, but will fall in love with Pulau Payar Marine Park. With expansive rainforest and luxuriant vegetation, calm and crystal clear waters, long and pristine beaches, rich and dazzling marine wonders ~ a trip to Pulau Payar is not only a voyage down to the underwater kingdom, it is a spring to the arms of mother nature. The other three are Pulau Kaca, Pulau Lembu and Pulau Segantang.The other attraction on Pulau Payar is the floating reef platform--anchored about 100 metres off the island. Collectively, the marine park is known as a sanctuary for an extensive range of marine organisms and almost 100 species of fish, which include porcupine fish, ghost pipe fish, red-spotted sweet lips, rock fish, goat fish, pennant butterfly fish, lion fish, bat fish and banner fish, among others. Pulau Payar offers 4 sandy beaches which combine to provide a total length of about 200 metres. Teeming with coral reefs, the waters surrounding the four islands have an average visibility of between nine to 15 metres, making the marine park an ideal place for scuba diving, snorkeling, swimming and picnicking for all. It is one of the best spots for divers, offering spectacular views of multicolored and vibrant soft corals, lying on the south-western tip of Pulau Payar. Getting There

Cave Exploring
In Langkawi, caves are not hard to find. In fact, they can be found almost anywhere and everywhere in the world. However, great caves are a different matter altogether. The caves can be found in Langkawi too. They are home to local fruits, bats, birds, and beautifully sculpted stalagmites and stalactites. Langkawi Island is located just off the coast of North Western Malaysia, about 30 km from Kuala Perlis and 51 km from Kuala Kedah and close to Thailand. The archipelago of Langkawi contains 99 islands during high tide whereas during low tide, the number of islands can be as many as 104. Sanctuary of some of the most ancient rainforests in the world, they are teeming with exotic flora and fauna. Langkawi Island itself is the largest among the archipelago, measuring about 478.5 sq km, is the only one with any real settlement. It fringed by lovely beaches scattered along its coast. The island is still very much a rural landscape with villages and paddy fields.

By Road
Drive to Kuala Kedah or Kuala Perlis, the main take-off points by ferry to Langkawi. The journey from Kuala Lumpur to Kuala Kedah takes about six hours while Kuala Perlis is another hour away.

By Air
Malaysia Airlines and budget carrier AirAsia provide direct air services from the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) to Langkawi.There are direct flights to Langkawi from London twice a week.

By Rail
Keretapi Tanah Melayu (KTM) or Malayan Railway provides economical and comfortable rail services from Kuala Lumpur to Alor Star in Kedah and Arau in Perlis (north of Kedah). From these points, take a taxi or bus Kuala Kedah and Kuala Perlis for your ferry to Langkawi.

By Sea
Express ferries provide regular services daily to Langkawi from both Kuala Kedah and Kuala Perlis. The journey takes about 1 hour 15 minutes and 45 minutes respectively. From Penang to Langkawi the ferry takes about 2 hours 30 minutes. The island is also a stopover for Star Cruises, one of the largest luxury cruise lines in the world.
